Working in a local paper involved Simon in a range of duties from hard news stories to sport, covering events from school plays to terrorist atrocities while building a good working relationship with members of the business community, churches, charities and prominent politicians in the Lagan Valley and surrounding areas. This has given Simon a very good understanding of the demands of provincial newspapers and has given him excellent experience in a wide range of photographic needs for the papers.
During his eight years with the Ulster Star Simon began shooting black and white negative, developing the pictures in the darkroom, soon moving on to colour printing when the newspaper started running colour pages and onto today’s digital cameras were electronic transfer of the photograph is the chosen method used by the majority of publications.
In 1999 he was commissioned by the Royal Irish Regiment to record the work carried out by the regiment in Sierra Leone’s capital Freetown.
Simon joined Harrison Photography in November 2001 and has been involved in a number of high profile visits in Northern Ireland by various members of the Royal Family, including the Queen’s Golden Jubilee visit in May 2002, and has undertaken assignments with the Prime Minister, Taoiseach, Secretaries of State and prominent Business men as well as working closely with PR agencies and members of the general public.
Simon has developed extensive experience of working with a range of public sector organisations including a number of NI Government Departments.
A number of celebrities have also been focused on by Simon’s camera lens, including Christina Aguilera, Beyonce, Meatloaf, Oasis and Westlife to name a few.
Within his time at Harrison Photography Simon has worked at locations throughout the North and South of Ireland, England and France, he also previously carried out work in Canada and South Africa for the Northern Ireland Fire Brigade and PSNI respectively.
Among his many awards Simon won the Vodafone Business Northern Ireland Press Photographer of The Year.
